Rodwell – Yes it’s true, Leeds are coming – again

Boston Director of Football Jim Rodwell has told impsTALK he is ‘delighted’ with the pre-season programme lined up for Boston United before the start of season 05/06.

‘Hasn’t Steve done brilliantly?’ Rodwell told impsTALK today. ‘This pre-season line-up might look just the same as every other pre-season that’s gone before, but believe me it’s not. It’s the best ever. Ever.’

Boston don’t play Barcelona on July 9th, instead they’ll make a short trip to Boston Town and burn down Tattershall Road so the UCL team have no choice but to beg a new stadium from the Pilgrims.

A game at Boca Juniors doesn’t follow on July 13, however Braintree Town entertain Boston in a game that Rodwell is eagerly anticipating.

‘It doesn’t get much better than Braintree away,’ he said, ‘and I’m sure we’ll take a least a coach full of players to that one, possibly the biggest match of our history. In fact we’ve already sold our ticket allocation.’

Boston then face Ipswich Town – in order to assess the loan signings Steve Evans will need to make during the season – followed by a match against League One outfit Nottingham Forest.

Matches against Brazil and the Harlem Globetrotters have not been arranged, but both Leeds and Leicester have agreed to send ‘strong’ teams to York Street to complete the home fixtures.

‘Normally, when managers say they’re sending strong teams what they actually mean is they’re sending the academy lads and are just trying to flog tickets for the hapless home side,’ Rodwell said.

‘I can assure fans that this won’t be the case this time round. Leicester will be sending every one of their world-class players, and while Leeds may have sold all theirs some time ago we shouldn’t forget that this is a team who were on the verge of the Champions League final just a few seasons ago.

‘That’s why we’re going to publish misleading ticket prices in the local press to trick you into coming to York Street, just like we did when Newcastle U15s visited recently.’

But Rodwell assured fans ticket prices would represent ‘fantastic value’.

‘Yes, fantastic value,’ he said, ‘But I’m not actually going to tell you how much the tickets are because otherwise you’ll all plan to piss off to Portugal on holiday. Which, ironically, is where Evo and Sotnick are right now.’

Boston then travel to Stamford, Evans’ old club, to complete their pre-season build up.

Rodwell added: “It really is exciting and I am sure the players got a buzz when they heard the news. We are already heading for record season ticket sales so at present we are all delighted.’

Boston keeper Nathan Abbey told impsTALK: ‘Did he actually say the word ‘buzz’? Yeah, I can’t wait to pit my skills against Forest, who are all transfer listed, and Leeds, who would now struggle to reach the top half of the Championship, let alone the Champions League semi-final.’

Details of pre-season ticket prices will be announced in due course but will change as and when supporters arrive at York Street.
